Competitive Coaches

Jim McLuskey (Mr. M.)

Owner and Coordinating Coach

Mr. M. brings over 40 years of experience to the program. As founder and head coach of Altadore Gym Club of Calgary for 17 years, he has experienced all levels of gymnastics from Provincial to International, placing gymnasts in the final Top 15 placement in 4 successive Olympic years. He is a Level 3 certified coach in the National Coaching Certification Program and also has Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees. Mr. M. actively coaches Level 2–3 gymnasts each evening and is extremely involved in the training programs of all 40 Mountain Shadows athletes.

Jen Cherney

Coach

Jen has been with the Mountain Shadows program since day 1. A former gymnast, Jen coordinates the 4 p.m. beginners' program and coaches the Provincial 4-5 groups. Along with her day job at Open Arms Preschool, Jen judges, does choreography, is responsible for gymnast selection, and generally picks up all the odds and ends needed to keep the club running efficiently. Each year Jen coaches girls to Provincial Championships, coaches Alberta Winter Games teams.

Kelsie Tupkal Connor

Coach

A former gymnast at Mountain Shadows, Kelsey has retuned home to coach in the competitive program. Coaching at all levels, Kelsey works with choreography and specializes in physical fitness. Currently completing her teacher education program in Lethbridge, Kelsey splits her time between student teaching and working as a member of the coaching team at the club. In Christmas 2008, Kelsey even managed to work in a wedding in Mexico.

Rebecca Johansen

Coach

After completing a successful career as a Mountain Shadows' gymnast, Rebecca has stepped directly into competitive coaching. After training in father Jim's group for many years, Rebecca has very definite requirements for her training groups and uses her judging experience and gymnastics background with great success.

Jessy Stevenson

Coach

After a successful gymnastics career that included a provincial vaulting championship, Jessy has moved into the coaching ranks of both recreational and competitive. Currently Jessy works with Jen Cherney as a competitive trainee coach.

		Ed Louie - Many years of coaching with Glenmore/COP/U of C and currently with the Canadian team, Ed lends his expertise each week.
		Sue Raffin - Over 35 years National experience with Altadore/Mount Royal/ and COP, Sue visits us regularly with choreography advice.
		Kira Lloyd - Rec/BP/Dance competitive - our long time member does it all. Kira can be found coaching in almost any capacity in our club.
